Her next appearance is in Abel Ferrara's The Blackout, with Dennis Hopper, Matthew Modine and Claudia Schiffer. Due out in 1997, it's the first time Dalle has filmed in the States. While filming in Miami, she, apparently taking a "when in Rome" attitude, found herself convicted of illegal drug use, and fined $4,000 by a U.S. court. The court agreed not to register the conviction on her record, as it would prevent her from obtaining the visas she would need to continue working in the country. Still, Dalle maintains an affection for the States, and particularly for New York City, which she visits often. "It's true that it's a tough, violent city," she says, "but there's also a great deal of humanity."
